Product Description

The Synchrony-16 an audio purist Studio Master Clock with extremely low jitter outputs. There are 12 Word Clock outputs and 4 SuperClock outputs organized in groups with each group containing four BNC outputs.

The Sync-16 operates at only one audio standard Sample Frequency (SF) or multiples thereof at any time in order to provide the lowest jitter signal possible. The multiples of 1x, 2x, and 4x, cover audio standard SFs including 44.1, 88.2, 176.4, 48, 96, & 192 kHz for Word Clock outputs. SuperClock outputs operate at 64x, 128x and 256x the base SF of 44.1 or 48 kHz.

The front panel has a base rate setting for 44.1 or 48 kHz and is organized with separate multiplier settings for each of the four output groups. There is also an Edit/Run switch to lock front panel settings to prevent unintentional changes to this very critical clock function.

Even a low-jitter signal can be degraded by problems with signal transmission. Proprietary output driver circuitry reduces this to a minimum by driving a wide range of cables with minimal change to crucial waveform characteristics.

Improper cable termination can also degrade jitter performance. Front panel Termination Diagnostic indicators let the user know if each output is properly terminated at a glance.

Word Clock outputs

The 12 Word Clock outputs are 75 Ohm BNC connectors which is the industry standard for Word Clock transmission. Each group of four outputs has a separate front panel multiplier setting. For example, this allows simultaneous output of 44.1, 88.2 and 176.4 kHz Word Clock signals at the same time.

SuperClock Outputs

The four SuperClock outputs also are 75 Ohm BNC connectors which have their own front panel multiplier setting, allowing simultaneous output of SuperClock at a multiple of the same base SF (44.1kHz in this example).

Termination

The front panel terminal indicators illuminate when each output is properly terminated with 75Ohms. Most devices have internal termination, or a switch or jumper setting to enable/disable their internal termination. Devices that do not have internal termination require a BNC T and BNC Terminator to be placed on the device’s WC input to achieve proper termination.

AC Power

The Synchrony-16 adjusts automatically to AC power inputs of 90-264 VAC @ 47-63Hz. There are no settings to change. The AC power input module contains line filtering and two 0.5A 250V time delay fuses in a red fuse holder/voltage selector. The power supply will operate properly over the entire rated input range with the voltage setting of the power input module’s red fuse holder/voltage selector inserted in either the 115 or 230 position.

See LavryGold voltage setting for details on accessing the fuses.

Operating tips

Improper Termination Diagnosis

In some cases a device’s internal termination is not implemented properly and the Sync-16’s Termination Diagnostic indicator will not illuminate. It is recommended that the internal termination be disabled (if possible) and that a BNC T and BNC Terminator be used instead.

If the device is supposed to have internal termination, the simple way to determine this is the case it to remove the BNC cable from the device in question and connect a BNC T with a 75 Ohm BNC Terminator in its place. If the Sync-16’s FP Termination diagnostic lamp illuminates on the output in question, it indicates that the problem is not the Sync-16 or cable.
